The NEURO TRONIC system knee joint is one of the most innovative joints for orthoses. It is electromechanically locked. The goal is that patients achieve a natural gait pattern and any false postures are prevented. The Auto mode of the system knee joint can be activated by two different sensor technologies, e-Motion and p-Motion. At e-Motion, the joint is controlled by motion sensors integrated in the controller of the orthosis. We recommend e-Motion for patients with a harmonious gait pattern. At p-Motion, a pressure sensor is placed under the foot piece of the orthosis. A slight extension moment during heel off (terminal stance) unlocks the system knee joint. We recommend p-Motion for patients with an atactic gait pattern. The NEURO TRONIC system knee joint is suited for indications inducing knee instabilities caused by neurological disorders, e.g. poliomyelitis, apoplexy or multiple sclerosis. For the orthosis configuration, we recommend to use the orthosis configurator. In order to use the NEURO TRONIC knee joint system, the orthopaedic technician requires a one-time, personal certification. If you need further information, contact our Customer Service or Technical Support. The following joint functions can be set by using the remote control: Auto mode - automatic The joint is electromechanically locked or unlocked. e-Motion uses motion sensors integrated in the controller p-Motion uses a pressure sensor placed under the foot piece Free mode - permanently free moving The joint is electromagnetically unlocked. Lock mode - permanently locked The joint is mechanically locked by spring force. Securing mechanism of the e-Motion technology The controller of the orthosis disposes of motion sensors that detect the movement and position of the lower leg. When standing with the orthosis or being right before heel strike, the motion sensors detect this and lock the NEURO TRONIC system knee joint. When walking with the orthosis and applying a slight extension moment during heel off (terminal stance), the motion sensors also detect this and unlock the joint. The unlocking moment can be adjusted by the dorsal extension of the NEURO VARIO, NEURO VARIO-SPRING and NEURO SWING system ankle joints. Securing mechanism of the p-Motion technology A pressure-loaded sensor is placed under the foot piece of the orthosis. The electronics lock the system knee joint. When standing or walking with the orthosis, pressure is applied to the pressure sensor under the foot piece and the NEURO TRONIC system knee joint is locked. A slight extension moment during heel off (terminal stance) unlocks the system knee joint. The unlocking moment can be adjusted by the dorsal extension of the NEURO VARIO, NEURO VARIOSPRING and NEURO SWING system ankle joints.
